Destination
Immerse yourself in the past and present of this tour's gorgeous coastal cities. Indulge in the fresh flavors of Italian cuisine in Naples. At Pompeii, peer into the realities of ancient Roman daily life. Tour the legendary resort island of Capri. Then continue to Rome for a true Roman holiday.

Itinerary
Naples
Day 1 Fly to Naples, the city at the heart of Italy’s Campania region.
Day 2 Touch down in Southern Italy. A Go Ahead representative meets you at the airport and then accompanies you to your hotel. The rest of your day is free to explore Naples. Tonight, enjoy an included traditional pizza dinner made by the experts, as pizza was invented here in Naples. (B in flight, D)

Sorrento
Day 3 A professional local guide leads this morning’s sightseeing tour of Naples, a city that united politically with the rest of the Italian mainland just 140 years ago. After passing by the 14th-century Duomo, the colorful harborfront, and the Castel dell’Ovo, you’ll visit the National Archaeological Museum, which houses one of the world’s most comprehensive collections of Greek and Roman antiquities. This afternoon, en route to Sorrento, stop in the provincial
capital of Caserta. A local guide leads you on a sightseeing tour of the magnificent palace, which is often compared to Versailles. (B)
Day 4 Step back into the 1st century A.D. on today’s visit to the legendary ruins of Pompeii. When Mount Vesuvius erupted nearly 2,000 years ago, it covered this Roman resort town in
volcanic ash, perfectly preserving its temples, theaters and homes. Now that nearly the entire site has been excavated, you can join a sightseeing guide for a firsthand look at what life was once like for wealthy citizens of the ancient Roman empire. (B, D)
Day 5 A sightseeing excursion today introduces you to the resort island of Capri. Thousands of years ago, Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans all took their turn vacationing amid Capri’s splendid seascapes. In the 1950s, Hollywood stars made it their playground. Weather permitting, you can even row into the Blue Grotto, which served as a meeting place for the ancient Romans. Tonight, experience a taste of local
culture as you watch a folk dance performance at an optional Tarantella Dinner. (B)
Day 6 Journey along the 31-mile Amalfi Coast this morning, making your way through the picture-perfect towns that hug the coastline and taking in magnificent views of the sea. The coastline has inspired everyone from Homer (who modeled the Siren Isles after the islands near Positano) to modern-day Hollywood
filmmakers. Later, travel into the countryside on our optional mozzarella farm tour and learn about the process of making this world-famous cheese. The excursion also includes dinner with a limoncello tasting. (B)

Rome
Day 7 As you make your way north to Rome, stop in Montecassino, whose landmark abbey was founded in A.D. 529 by St. Benedict. It was here that St. Benedict wrote his Rule, which served as the foundation for monastic code throughout western Europe. Arrive later in Rome, the Eternal City. (B)
Day 8 This morning, follow more than 2,000 years of history during a sightseeing tour of Imperial Rome. You’ll also view the Forum, the ancient meeting place of the Romans, as well as the Colosseum. You’ll then have a free afternoon to continue your explorations of the city. Tonight, you might wish to attend our optional Dinner with Tenors, an evening of authentic Roman cuisine and live opera music. (B)
Day 9 Transfer to the airport for departure or stay in Rome for our tour extension. (B)

Extend your stay
Rome
Day 9 Continuing your Roman holiday, join an optional excursion to Vatican City. The trip includes a visit to St. Peter’s Basilica and a viewing of the Sistine Chapel. Your afternoon is free. You might wish to revisit the Vatican Museum to view other great works. (B)
Day 10 Enjoy another free day in Rome or join an optional excursion to the gardens of Tivoli, site of a beautiful ancient and Renaissance-era villa. You’ll visit the estate and view the elaborate gardens. (B)
